AS ICT INFO2 Computer Security

I’m sure that my students are having an excellent time in London on their Art trip. Here’s some weekend preparation for the start of next week’s lesson. Go into my del.icio.us link, choose the tag for Youtube and watch the video clips I saved on the 11th September. They all relate to computer security. Key aspects you should be picking up are those covering: usernames and passwords, viruses, hackers, disasters, backups, antivirus and spyware protection.

AS ICT INFO2 3.2.5 Computer Misuse Act

We’re going to follow up Data Protection legislation with looking at threats to ICT systems, including: internal and external threats and malpractice and crime. We’ll discuss the provisions for legal action to be taken in the event of security breaches, and look at current legislation designed to dissuade hackers. We’ll look at the difficulties of enforcing these as well. Laws include: Computer Misuse Act and the update to this, the Police and Justice Act 2006 (Sections 35 – 38). There are other laws by which a hacker can be tried.

Fatmax has a range of resources which students can access on this topic, if they wish.
